The Story Behind "Where Scent Becomes Signature"
Gift Olubankole分享
There is a phrase that sits at the heart of everything we do at Abbie Scent: Where Scent Becomes Signature. It is not a tagline. It is a belief.
This is the story behind it.
It Started With a Question
I didn't set out to build a fragrance brand. I set out to understand one.
I am Gift Olubankole, the founder of Abbie Scent. My background is in Mass Communication and Brand Management. I have worked in hairstyling, bagmaking, shoemaking, photography, and videography. I have always been someone who creates, who builds, who asks: what if I made this myself?
The question that started Abbie Scent was simple: How is perfume actually made?
That question sent me down a rabbit hole I never came back from. I invested time, money, and energy into learning the craft. I studied fragrance families, tested accords, made mistakes, started again. Family and friends encouraged me when doubt crept in. And slowly, something began to take shape.
Not just a fragrance. A brand. A vision. A statement.
Why Identity Matters
From the very beginning, I knew that Abbie Scent would not be built on trends or mass appeal. It would be built on something more personal: the relationship between a person and the scent they choose to carry with them.
Fragrance is one of the most intimate things we wear. It is invisible, yet it is often the first thing people notice. It lingers after we leave a room. It lives in the memory of the people we meet. It is, in the truest sense, an extension of who we are.
That is why identity sits at the centre of everything Abbie Scent creates. We are not interested in making fragrances that smell good on everyone. We are interested in making fragrances that feel like you, specifically, intentionally, unmistakably.
A signature scent is not a luxury. It is a form of self-knowledge. And self-knowledge is something everyone deserves access to.
Confidence as a Foundation
There is something that happens when you find the right fragrance. A quiet shift. A settling into yourself. You walk differently. You carry yourself differently. You feel, in a way that is hard to articulate, more like yourself.
That feeling is what Abbie Scent is built to create.
We call our customers Royalties, not as a marketing term, but as a genuine belief. Every person who wears an Abbie Scent fragrance should feel elevated. Seen. Worthy of something beautiful. Not because they have earned it, but because they already are it.
Confidence is not something a fragrance gives you. But the right fragrance can remind you of what you already have.
Culture and the World We're Building For
Abbie Scent was born from a specific cultural context, and we do not shy away from that.
As a Black British founder with Nigerian heritage, I am building a brand that speaks to a global audience while remaining rooted in a particular experience: the experience of people who have often been told that luxury was not made for them.
It was. It is. And we are here to prove it.
Our fragrances are crafted for people who move between worlds, between cultures, between identities, and who want a scent that moves with them. Rich enough for a formal evening. Light enough for a quiet morning. Complex enough to hold a story.
We are building for the person who does not see themselves in most fragrance campaigns. The person who wants something that feels like home, not like a borrowed aesthetic.
The Vision
Abbie Scent is still in its early chapters. Keziah is our first fragrance, and it is only the beginning.
The vision is larger than a single bottle. It is a world where fragrance is understood as a form of self-expression, where choosing a scent is as intentional as choosing how you dress or how you speak. Where the question is not what smells good but what feels like me.
We want to build a house of fragrances that tells a range of stories, each one named with intention, each one crafted with care, each one designed to become someone's signature.
We want to be the brand that people discover and never leave, not because they have to, but because something about what we make feels like it was made for them.
Where Scent Becomes Signature
That phrase means something specific to me.
A scent becomes a signature the moment it stops being something you wear and starts being something you are. When people smell it and think of you. When you reach for it without thinking. When it becomes part of the story you tell about yourself without saying a word.
That is what we are building toward. That is what every decision at Abbie Scent is made in service of.
We are not just making perfume. We are making the thing that stays.
Welcome to Abbie Scent. Welcome, Royalty.
