The Story Behind Keziah: Our First Fragrance

The Story Behind Keziah: Our First Fragrance

Gift Olubankole

Every great fragrance has a story. Keziah's begins with a single thought.

An Unexpected Beginning

Abbie Scent wasn't always the plan. As a woman with a degree in Mass Communication and Brand Management, skills in hairstyling (afro hair), bagmaking, and shoemaking, and a passion for photography and videography, I have always known I wanted to build something of my own. I just didn't know it would be this.

It started with a thought: How is perfume actually made? That one question sent me down a rabbit hole. I invested time, money, and energy into learning the craft. Family and friends encouraged me to keep going when doubt crept in. And so, Abbie Scent was born, not from a lifelong plan, but from curiosity, courage, and a community that believed in me.

Creating Keziah

When it came to creating our first fragrance, I approached it the way I approach most things - intuitively. I went through a wide range of fragrance accords, smelling each one carefully, noting the emotions they stirred, the memories they evoked, the feelings they left behind.

Three stood out immediately: Gourmand, Transparent, and Wood Symphony. They felt like the foundation of something special. From there, I added what I felt would complement them - building a scent that was layered, intentional, and alive.

For the balance of each accord, I asked myself one simple question: Which do I want to smell more? And I went from there.

The Moment I Knew

I tested the blend on scent strips, waved it gently in front of my nose, and that was it, an instant aha moment. I was in love.

Naming it, though? That was another story entirely.

Why Keziah?

At Abbie Scent, our fragrances are intentional. We don't sell sex. We don't chase trends. We create scents that mean something.

A colleague described Keziah as sweet and spicy. That sent me searching for names that could mean just that: sweet-scented spice. In that search, I found myself in the Book of Job, where Keziah is one of Job's daughters. I wondered what her name meant, and there it was: sweet-scented spice, beauty, restoration, renewal, and resilience. When I discovered that, it was a win. The name chose itself.

Who Is Keziah For?

Keziah is for the Royalties, our name for every Abbie Scent customer. We believe that everyone who wears an Abbie Scent fragrance should feel rich. Not just materially, but mentally. Elevated. Seen. Worthy.

Whether you wear it on a quiet Sunday morning or a winter evening out, Keziah moves with you; opening with freshness, deepening into warmth, and leaving a trail of vanilla and spice that lingers for 8+ hours.

This is just the beginning.

Welcome to Abbie Scent. Welcome, Royalty.
